Town Offices Closed for Labor Day
The Town Offices will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2019 in observance of Labor Day.  Enjoy the holiday weekend!
Queset Sewer Paving
Final paving of the Queset Sewer Project began this week and will continue for approximately 4 weeks until completed. The work includes excavation of the temporary trench pavement and installation of permanent trench paving along with the milling and overlay of all impacted areas.
Aerial Spraying for Mosquitoes

On August 26th State officials announced the completion of the second round of aerial spraying in Bristol/Plymouth Counties. Easton remains at "Critical" risk for EEE virus. Samples collected and tested this week continue to be positive for EEE. As expected the spraying has reduced the number of mosquitoes infected with EEE, but it has not eliminated them. As you prepare for the upcoming holiday weekend, we urge you to make personal protection of yourself and loved ones a priority by avoiding exposure to mosquitoes. Board of Health Votes to Restrict Outdoor Activities from Dusk through Dawn
On Wednesday, August, 7, 2019, in response to the high risk threat of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), the Easton Board of Health, pursuant to the Code of the Town of Easton, Chapter 332<https://www.ecode360.com/32676006>, voted to restrict outdoor activities on all public property and all private property that is used for locally sponsored youth activities, including but not limited to youth sports leagues, from dusk to dawn, in accordance with the times listed in the Massachusetts Arbovirus Response Plan, effective immediately and until further notice. Notice to Property Owners in Queset Sewer District
At this time the Queset Sewer District construction is substantially complete and ready for connections. Property owners in the Queset Sewer District that are part of the sewer project that would like to connect should contact a Licensed Drain Layer or contact a contractor who is eligible to become licensed to begin the process of connecting to sewer. The cost to connect to the sewer lines installed by the Town is the responsibility of the property owner. We recommend getting as many quotes as possible for the work and to be clear on what is or is not included in the scope of work (i.e. restoration of lawns, driveways, walkways, removal of trees, internal plumbing changes, abandonment of septic or cesspool, pumping of the old system, cost of permits, etc.). Only Licensed Drain Layers (or those applying to be licensed) may apply for a sewer permit. The Town of Easton will license contractors that have experience installing municipal sanitary sewer, possess the required insurance, and have posted a $5,000 performance bond. Five Corners Sewer Construction Project: Phase II
Phase II of the Five Corners Sewer Project includes installation of a sanitary sewer collection system from Roberts Drive along Route 106 down Foundry Street to the Five Corners area and will result in one-way traffic along Route 106 during most of the construction. The greatest amount of traffic is anticipated to occur during morning commuting hours. Fiscal Year 2020 Budget for the Town of Easton and Easton Public Schools

Town of Easton Email

National Grid Pole Replacement
National Grid has started replacing poles and equipment along Center Street from Depot Street to Main Street. The project is expected to take between 4 and 6 weeks. Please be patient with the construction in this area for the foreseeable future.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is transitioning all project websites into the newly designed, statewide website. Now through End of August: Fire Station #2 at 87 Depot Street - Under Construction - Closed
Fire Station #2 on Depot Street will be closed through the end of August during construction to add an addition and renovate the existing station. Fire Personnel and apparatus will be housed during the period of construction at Fire Station #3; on Bay road. Please remember to call 911 immediately in the event of an emergency.
Now through September 22: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
Please be aware that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is conducting a national health study and Bristol County has been randomly selected as one of the survey locations. Starting July 19, 2019 through September 22, 2019, study personnel will be conducting a confidential phone survey of residents in Bristol County. The CDC has asked the Town of Easton to share this information so that residents are aware this is taking place, and should you receive a phone call and are willing to participate, "that this legitimate survey is a federally funded national effort with significant influence on health policy across the nation." Now through September 30: Phase II Water Restrictions in Place in Easton
Mandatory outside water restrictions are in place from May 1st to September 30th. This action is necessary to be in compliance with the Town's Water Management Act Permit. Phase II restricts water on an even/odd basis as follows:
*     Customers at even-numbered addresses will be restricted to allow lawn watering only on Monday and Thursday between the hours of 5:00 AM-8:00 AM and 6:00 PM-9:00 PM
*     Customers at odd-numbered addresses will be restricted to allow lawn watering only on Tuesday and Friday between the hours of 5:00 AM-8:00 AM and 6:00 PM-9:00 PM
Handheld hoses will be allowed anytime.

Now through April 1, 2020: Real Estate Exemption Applications for FY2020 Now Available
Applications for real estate property tax exemptions for FY2020 are now available through the Easton Assessors' Office. The town offers many exemptions designed to reduce property tax for qualifying seniors and disabled residents. Exemptions include:

*     Elderly, for those age 65 and older who qualify by income and assets;

*     Widow, widower, persons over 70 or minor surviving child with asset limit;

*     Disabled veterans, blind, tax deferral; and

*     Community Preservation Act with income limits

August 31: Tai Chi in the Garden

The Easton Food Pantry will be helping with food donations "Stuff the Truck" September 6-8, 2019 (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) located at Roche Bros. Supermarket, Roche Bros. Way, Easton. Non-Perishable food only. Suggested Donations:  cereal, vegetables, pasta, fruit, pasta sauce, baked beans, tuna, soups, etc. No damaged packages, dented cans, or outdated items please.

September 8: Easton Historical Society Open House

The September 8th Open House of the Easton Historical Society from 1-5PM will feature Janice Narsasian at 2PM. Having been a kindergarten teacher in Easton for 24 years first at Moreau Hall and then Center School, she will discuss how the responsibilities of a kindergarten teacher changed drastically during that time period. September 21: The 2019 Easton Out of the Darkness Walk at Borderland State Park

Join the walk! The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention leads the fight against suicide. Funds raised from The Out of the Darkness Walks allow us to fund research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. Walk Location: Borderland State Park - North Easton, MA. Parking will be available at Oliver Ames High School and buses will be running from Oliver Ames to Borderland State Park. September 21: Oakes Ames Symposium at Stonehill College
On Saturday, September 21st at Stonehill College, organizers Fred L. Ames and Maury Klein will present 'The Enigma of Oakes Ames'. It is a story of perseverance and courage. Starting at 8:30 in the Martin Institute there will be a full schedule of speakers and discussions and a closing reception at Oakes Ames Memorial Hall. Speakers include Edmund Hands (Easton historian re the early years of Oakes Ames), Chris Milford and Jay Wickersham (Cambridge based historians re Oakes Ames and the Ames Shovel Company), Maury Klein (author of the History of the Union Pacific re Oakes Ames and the Credit Mobilier), and two time Pulitzer Prize winner T.
