Aerial Spraying for Mosquitoes
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) have announced that aerial spraying for mosquitoes will take place in specific areas of southeastern Massachusetts, including portions of Easton, beginning tonight, Thursday, August 8, 2019, due to the high risk for the Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus. Board of Health Votes to Restrict Outdoor Activities from Dusk through Dawn
On Wednesday, August, 7, 2019, in response to the high risk threat of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), the Easton Board of Health, pursuant to the Code of the Town of Easton, Chapter 332<https://www.ecode360.com/32676006>, voted to restrict outdoor activities on all public property and all private property that is used for locally sponsored youth activities, including but not limited to youth sports leagues, from dusk to dawn, in accordance with the times listed in the Massachusetts Arbovirus Response Plan<https://eastontownma.documents-on-demand.com/document/c631f657-ceb7-e911-a2d2-000c29a59557/2019%20Recommended%20Activity%20Cancellation%20Time>, effective immediately and until further notice. Week of August 19: Bulky Item Pick-up
The week of August 19, 2019 will be the next "FREE BULK ITEM" pickup week for Waste Management customers. If you are enrolled in our Waste Management trash program, you can put one (1) large item curbside on your regular trash day to be picked up at no charge to you. No need to call the office, just have your item out at 7AM. You can find the list of acceptable items on the Town's website. Any questions call the DPW @ 508-230-0800.
Notice to Property Owners in Queset Sewer District
At this time the Queset Sewer District construction is substantially complete and ready for connections. Property owners in the Queset Sewer District that are part of the sewer project that would like to connect should contact a Licensed Drain Layer or contact a contractor who is eligible to become licensed to begin the process of connecting to sewer. The cost to connect to the sewer lines installed by the Town is the responsibility of the property owner. We recommend getting as many quotes as possible for the work and to be clear on what is or is not included in the scope of work (i.e. restoration of lawns, driveways, walkways, removal of trees, internal plumbing changes, abandonment of septic or cesspool, pumping of the old system, cost of permits, etc.). Only Licensed Drain Layers (or those applying to be licensed) may apply for a sewer permit. The Town of Easton will license contractors that have experience installing municipal sanitary sewer, possess the required insurance, and have posted a $5,000 performance bond. Five Corners Sewer Construction Project: Phase II
Phase II of the Five Corners Sewer Project includes installation of a sanitary sewer collection system from Roberts Drive along Route 106 down Foundry Street to the Five Corners area and will result in one-way traffic along Route 106 during most of the construction. The greatest amount of traffic is anticipated to occur during morning commuting hours. Town of Easton Email

National Grid Pole Replacement
National Grid has started replacing poles and equipment along Center Street from Depot Street to Main Street. The project is expected to take between 4 and 6 weeks. Please be patient with the construction in this area for the foreseeable future.

South Coast Rail Project

The Public Health Nurse will be available for Blood Pressure readings for Easton residents on a walk in basis (no appointment needed) according to the following Tuesday schedule. Please note the Public Health nurse will be able to do blood pressure readings, not Blood Sugar.

Now through End of August: Fire Station #2 at 87 Depot Street - Under Construction - Closed
Fire Station #2 on Depot Street will be closed from May 6 through the end of August while construction happens, to add an addition and renovate the existing station. Fire Personnel and apparatus will be housed during the period of construction at Fire Station #3; on Bay road. Please remember to call 911 immediately in the event of an emergency.
Now through September 22: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
Please be aware that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is conducting a national health study and Bristol County has been randomly selected as one of the survey locations. Starting July 19, 2019 through September 22, 2019, study personnel will be conducting a confidential phone survey of residents in Bristol County. The CDC has asked the Town of Easton to share this information so that residents are aware this is taking place, and should you receive a phone call and are willing to participate, "that this legitimate survey is a federally funded national effort with significant influence on health policy across the nation." Now through September 30: Phase II Water Restrictions in Place in Easton
Mandatory outside water restrictions are in place from May 1st to September 30th. This action is necessary to be in compliance with the Town's Water Management Act Permit. Phase II restricts water on an even/odd basis as follows:
·     Customers at even-numbered addresses will be restricted to allow lawn watering only on Monday and Thursday between the hours of 5:00 AM-8:00 AM and 6:00 PM-9:00 PM
·     Customers at odd-numbered addresses will be restricted to allow lawn watering only on Tuesday and Friday between the hours of 5:00 AM-8:00 AM and 6:00 PM-9:00 PM
Handheld hoses will be allowed anytime.

Now through April 1, 2020: Real Estate Exemption Applications for FY2020 Now Available
Applications for real estate property tax exemptions for FY2020 are now available through the Easton Assessors' Office. The town offers many exemptions designed to reduce property tax for qualifying seniors and disabled residents. Exemptions include:

·     Elderly, for those age 65 and older who qualify by income and assets;

·     Widow, widower, persons over 70 or minor surviving child with asset limit;

·     Disabled veterans, blind, tax deferral; and

·     Community Preservation Act with income limits

Easton Recreation Full Day Summer Program - Sessions Are Still Open - Register Now!
This program is for children ages 6-13 (14-15 for the Workreation Program). The program is held at the Easton Middle School. The new extended hours are 8:30am-4:00pm. There are 6 one-week sessions starting July 8th running through August 16th that include fun filled activities throughout the day. Sunday the Open House of the Historical Society will be from 1-5PM and featuring amazing historical documents. 7-8 PM. Urban Lunchmeat is a teen rock band from Easton specializing in classic and alternative rock. Musical inspirations include Green Day, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Pearl Jam. Brought together through Mockingbird School of Music in 2016, the band now plays at local music venues, events, fundraisers, and private parties. Urban Lunchmeat is excited about their next adventure: writing and performing new original music. Event Location: Queset Garden.

August 23: Mini Resource Fair / Ice Cream Social - Easton Council On Aging
The Easton Council On Aging is happy to bring you a Mini-Safety Resource Fair at Frothingham Hall (15 Barrows Street North Easton, MA) on Friday, August 23 from 12:30-2:30pm. Some of the emergency response system companies in attendance include Phillips Lifeline, Alert Sentry, and Be Safe at Home. The Sherriff's Department will be here as well. This fair will also double as an ice cream social! Serving up your ice cream will be Easton's finest: Police, Fire and Paramedics! In addition to the fair and the ice cream, there will be giveaways and raffles! We are hoping for a well-attended fair, so please consider joining us. August 23: Children's Shabbat in the Park with the "Prince of Color" at Borderland State Park
All families are invited to enjoy an interactive variety performance for children at Borderland State Park, 259 Massapoag Ave, Easton on Friday, August 23 at 5:30 pm. The "Prince of Color" will entertain children with dancing, singing, magic, parades, juggling, stories and more. The event is perfect for families with children nine years old and younger. After lighting Shabbat candles, families will enjoy the show and then cool down with a Hoodsie ice treat. The event is free and takes place near Borderland visitor center. Parking is $5/car. August 24: Teen Genre Book Club - Teen Den - Main Library

The Teen Genre Book Club will meet the 4th Saturday of each month from 11AM - 12PM, in the Teen Den at the Main Library. Read a book that falls into the monthly genre and come prepared to discuss your thoughts with your fellow teens. This is a great way to meet other book lovers and discover new books.
