The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP)

Recently the MassDEP launched five programs that provide funding to encourage and support the use of electric vehicles.
*   MassEVIP Workplace Charging Program<https://www.mass.gov/how-to/apply-for-massevip-workplace-charging-incentives> open enrollment grant providing 60 percent of cost of hardware of Level 1 (120 volt) or Level 2 (240 volt) EV charging station to eligible employers with 15 or more employees in a non-residential place of business.
*   MassEVIP Multi-Unit Dwelling Charging Program<https://www.mass.gov/how-to/apply-for-massevip-multi-unit-dwelling-charging-incentives> open enrollment grant providing 60 percent of cost of hardware of a Level 1 or Level 2 EV charging station to eligible property owners with 10 or more residential units at the location.
National Grid Pole Replacement
National Grid has started replacing poles and equipment along Center Street from Depot Street to Main Street. The project is expected to take between 4 and 6 weeks. Please be patient with the construction in this area for the foreseeable future.
Bulky Item Pick Up Week
The week of April 15, 2019 will be the next "FREE BULK ITEM" pickup week for Waste Management customers. If you are in our Waste Management program, you can put one (1) large item curbside on your regular trash day to be picked up at no charge to you. No need to call the office, just have your item out at 7:00 a.m. You can find the list of acceptable items on the Town's website<http://www.easton.ma.us/easton_residents/trash_pickup_and_recycling/bulky_item_pick_up.php>. Any questions call the DPW at 508-230-0800.

Assessor's Office
The Easton Assessors' Office is in the process of doing cyclical inspections of Personal Property throughout the town. The inspections are being done over the next few weeks with the inspector going door-to-door to businesses to do inspections of both the interior and exterior of commercial and industrial properties. The Department of Revenue requires that every community re-inspect its personal property periodically. As a result, the Easton Board of Assessors inspects some of its property every year. In addition to meeting state requirements, the objective of this project is to assure the accuracy of the Town's assessing data. The inspector, Renee Holloran, will have a letter of identification on town letterhead and will be driving a Volkswagen Jetta. For further information, contact the Assessors' Office at 508-230-0520.
The deadline for filing for real estate exemptions is April 1, 2019. These exemptions are for disabled veterans, elderly, blind, widow/widower who are Easton residents/homeowners. Please file an application by April 1, 2019 to reduce your FY2019 real estate or Community Preservation Act (CPA) taxes. Please call the office 508-230-0520 to determine if you qualify for a reduction in your real estate and/or CPA taxes.
The Public Health Nurse will be available for Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar screening for Easton Residents (on a walk in basis, no appointment needed) according to the following schedule:

Now through April 22: 12noon - Deadline to apply for an Absentee Ballot - Annual Town Election Absentee Ballots for the Annual Town Election are now available at the Town Clerk's Office. Absentee Ballots are available for registered voters who will be unable to vote at the polls on Election Day due to absence from the Town during normal polling hours, physical disability preventing them from going to the polling place or religious belief. Registered voters must fill out an application<https://eastontownma.documents-on-demand.com/Document/b5791743-ccbd-e711-80bf-001fbc00ed85/Absentee%20Ballot%20Application%20-%202018%20Easton.pdf> which will allow them to complete an absentee ballot at the Town Clerks office or to have one mailed to them. The deadline for applying for an absentee ballot is Monday, April 22, 2019 at 12:00 Noon. Completed ballots must be received at the Town Clerks Office by the close of polls on Election Day (Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 8PM). Get out and vote. YOUR VOTE DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Starting April 1: NOTICE TO EASTON RESIDENTS - Annual System Flushing Program

Starting April 1st, the Water Division will be conducting its annual system flushing program to ensure the continued quality of our drinking water. We anticipate this program will last approximately 2 - 3 weeks. The water may become discolored due to the heavy use so please check before using. If you have any questions, call 508-230-0850.
April 7: Representative Claire Cronin Hosting the RALI CARES Program Event at Easton Fire Department
Representative Claire Cronin, in partnership with the Easton Fire Department, the Easton Police Department, and Easton Wings of Hope, will be hosting the RALI CARES program in Easton on Sunday, April 7th from 10am to 1pm at the Easton Fire Department, 48 Lothrop Street. The RALI CARES program educates members of the community about early warning signs of addiction among teens. RALI CARES is an educational 33-foot trailer that is set up as a mock teenage bedroom. Retired law enforcement officials will walk attendees through the trailer, identifying potential warning signs of addiction, potential areas of concern, and how to talk to children about the issue. April 11: Easton Garden Club - Weather and Gardening Featuring Meteorologist David Epstein
The Easton Garden Club invites the public to attend a free program, "Weather and Gardening" featuring David Epstein, Meteorologist & Horticulturalist. Thursday, April 11th at 6:30PM refreshments, 7PM program located at the Covenant Congregation Church, 204 Center Street, North Easton. Cost: Free
David Epstein has been a professional meteorologist and horticulturalist for three decades. He spent 16 years on-air at WCVB in Boston and currently is a meteorology professor at Framingham State University and Colby College. April 20: Septic Repair Loan Program
Health Inspectors with the Board of Health will be available Saturday, April 20th from 8:30AM-11:30AM at Frothingham Memorial Hall, 15 Barrows Street to answer questions about the Town's Septic Repair Loan Program. The Town offers residents with failed septic systems a 4% interest loan, payable over 20 years to be used either for a new septic system or for connecting to an available sewer. There are no income restrictions. Residents need to have no outstanding Town invoices such as tax, water, trash etc.
April 20: Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day

Please be aware that on Saturday, April 20th, the Water Division will be hosting the Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection at the DPW facility located at 130 Center Street between 8AM-12PM. In addition to accepting household hazardous waste, The Lions' Club will be present at the DPW to accept appliances and larger items for a fee. April 20: Residential Sharps Collection - As part of the Easton Water Division Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day<http://www.easton.ma.us/departments/dpw/water_division/docs/2019%20Annual%20HHWD%20Flyer.pdf>, Residential Sharps will be accepted at the Council on Aging, Frothingham Hall, 15 Barrows Street, Easton from 8AM-12PM on Saturday, April 20th. Sharps must be secured in a capped, puncture resistant plastic container, such as a laundry detergent bottle. No loose sharps will be accepted at this collection. April 25: Easton Wings of Hope Presents "Prevention Youth Substance Use: A Discussion"

April 27: Drug Take Back Day - Easton Police Station - Lothrop Street
Saturday April 27th from 10am to 2pm at the Police Station on Lothrop Street. Bring your prescription medications for disposal to the Easton Police Station. Over-the-counter and pet medications will also be accepted. You can drive right into the parking lot and pass the meds directly to the volunteers. Sharps (needles, syringes), thermometers, IV bags, medical devices, and personal care products WILL NOT be accepted - sharps can be dropped off on 4/20 from 8am to noon at Frothingham Hall during Household Hazardous Waste Day.

April 27: Annual Water Division Open House

April 28: Rabies Clinic - Easton Police Department

The Town of Easton will be holding a Rabies Clinic on Sunday, April 28th. The Clinic will be held at the Easton Police Station, 46 Lothrop Street, Easton from 9AM-11:30AM. Cats from 9-10AM, Dogs from 10AM-11:30AM. All dogs must be on a leash and cats should be in carriers. The charge for the vaccine is $10.00. May 1: Open Burning Ends - Easton Fire Department Introduces New Online Burning Permit System
In an effort to streamline the burning permit process for residents, the Town of Easton has moved from our in-person, paper permits, to an online application system. The improvements to the system for a burning permit, as well as requests to burn each day, we believe will greatly benefit our residents. Now permits can be applied for from a home computer, a laptop or even your smart phone. The new online burning permit system will be in use for the upcoming 2019 burning permit season (which commences on January 15th through May 1st). This will be the only method for applying for a burning permit moving forward, including agricultural permits. If you have any questions or need assistance, call 508-230-0750. A kiosk will be available at 413 Bay Rd. (Fire Station #3) during normal business hours, for those without access to a computer. We appreciate your patience during our transition to the new online service, and we hope that you find the process more efficient and user-friendly than methods used in the past. May 1: Phase II Water Restrictions in Place in Easton
Mandatory outside water restrictions are in place from May 1st to September 30th. This action is necessary to be in compliance with the Town's Water Management Act Permit. Phase II restricts water on an even/odd basis as follows:
*     Customers at even-numbered addresses will be restricted to allow lawn watering only on Monday and Thursday between the hours of 5:00 AM-8:00 AM and 6:00 PM-9:00 PM
*     Customers at odd-numbered addresses will be restricted to allow lawn watering only on Tuesday and Friday between the hours of 5:00 AM-8:00 AM and 6:00 PM-9:00 PM
Handheld hoses will be allowed anytime.

Foster Parent Recruitment for The Department of Children and Families
Is there room in your home and heart for a foster child? The Department of Children and Families is actively recruiting foster parents for children in Easton coming into care. We are searching for individuals or families with the love and patience to help foster children. You can be single, married, partnered, divorced or widowed. You can own your home or rent. We need homes for children aged 0 to 22, which include sibling groups, children with special needs, medically involved children, and infants born, exposed to drugs and older teens. We are looking for long-term foster homes but also have a need for emergency and respite homes, which involve a shorter time commitment on the part of a foster family. Our goal is to provide our foster children with a supportive and healing environment in a home in their own community until they can be reunited with their families or another plan can be made on their behalf. The rewards of providing daily care, guidance and acceptance are immeasurable. Award-winning author and Master Maine Fishing Guide, Randy Spencer, is Author-in-Residence at Queset House. He has been selected as one of the 'ten most intriguing people in Maine'. In this unique workshop, Randy will help demystify what seems to be the colossal business of writing a book with simplifying tools such as storyboarding, outlining, and other methodologies. April 20: Fly Casting with Randy Spencer
Improve your fly casting skills, or just come to watch, the beautiful art of Spey casting! First developed in the mid-1800's in Scotland, this double-handed technique is wonderful for larger gamefish such as striped bass, steelheads and the Atlantic salmon.
April 20: The 4th Annual Great Easton Cleanup
As spring approaches, it's time to register for the 4th Annual Great Easton Cleanup! Keep Easton Beautiful in partnership with the Town of Easton DPW organizes a spring litter cleanup each year. This year's cleanup will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2019. Bag and T shirt pickup starts at 8:45AM with the cleanup until 11:30, followed a celebration lunch for volunteers. This is a rain or shine event. At last year's cleanup, over 420 resident volunteers, including groups from the boy scouts, girl scouts, local churches, community groups, and businesses, removed several hundred bags of litter from roadsides, parks, and school grounds. April 24: Author Ellen Marie Wiseman Speaking Engagement

April 25: The Easton Music Department presents Evening of Jazz

Bike-a-thon fundraiser for Kids Ages 2-15, benefiting pediatric and adult patient care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, is Saturday, 4/27/2019. Please register on or before April 27th to support these life-saving programs hosted by Easton's PMC Kids Ride: (1) Sign-up to Save the Life of a patient in need of a stem-cell transplant. May 1, 2019: The Easton Music Department Presents String Night
Wednesday, May 1st performances will include OA Chamber Orchestra, EMS Chamber Orchestras, & OA Guitar Ensemble. Beginning at 7PM located at Easton Middle School Auditorium, 98 Columbus Ave. North Easton, MA. This is a free event, but donations will be accepted to support the OA Music Department.
May 4: NRT's 2019 Farm Festival
Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 10AM - 2PM *Rain date, Saturday, May 18, 2019. Any date changes will be announced on the NRT's website (https://www.nrtofeaston.org/) and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/NRT.SheepPasture/ Admission is $20/ family, up to 5 people. Admission includes all games, crafts, activities, music, and games. Food will be available for purchase if desired for a small fee. Families are also welcome to bring a picnic lunch and blanket to enjoy outdoors! Vendors may be on site with local crafts, etc. and those items are not included with admission fee. Please no dogs or other pets at the event. Service dogs are welcome. All admission fees directly benefit the operations of the NRT of Easton & Sheep Pasture!
May 11: Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
Saturday, May 11th marks the 27th anniversary of one of America's great days of giving - the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp out Hunger Food Drive. Participating in this year's Letter Carrier Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is simple. Just leave a non-perishable food donation in a bag at your mailbox on Saturday, May 11th and your letter carrier will do the rest. These donations go directly to local food pantries to provide food to people in Easton who need our help. We invite you to join in America's great day of giving and help us in our fight to end hunger. To volunteer with the sorting and packing the day of the drive please contact the Easton Food Pantry at 508-230-0670.
